I spotted our order coming, but I could see his thumb resting on my sandwich as he was carrying it. There were two teenage boys, delivering sandwiches to tables. I told her my issue and she re checked the total and confirmed that I was overcharged seventeen dollars, she gave me a cash refund for the difference. I went to the cashier, she was no where to be found and there was a line forming of people waiting to pay( looking back, I guess that is not an issue when there is a 30 minute wait for food )apparently, she went to the storeroom to get cups. The receipt wasn't itemized, but there were twelve prices listed and we only ordered eight. We sat down and waited for food and I looked at the receipt because it seemed like a high price. The cashier didn't know what that was, she only knew it was a ginger beer, no problem, "You learn something every day", she said. We ordered a beef club sandwich, a chicken sausage sandwich, two cookies, a pecan bar, a lemon bar and two beverages, one drink ordered was a Bundarberge. I was told that there was a lot of online orders. I looked around and there was hardly a line so I asked why. Bottom line, I recommend it for breakfast, since that's what I had, but after reading other reviews, I'd like to stop by for lunch sometime.Upon arrival at 1:00 on Monday, we were informed that it would take 30-45 minutes before lunch would be ready. It's really not Simple Simon's fault, I suppose, but it does take away from the otherwise quaint and trendy atmosphere. I took one "star" away because we would have liked to sit outside to enjoy our breakfast in the warm sunshine, but both times we were there a gardener was using his noisy leaf blower, making outside eating impractical. And while I don't remember what we ordered the first time we visited, the fact that we wanted to go back says a lot, I think. We also splurged on a blueberry scone, which was all crumbly goodness. This time we split the tasty chicken apple sausage omelette, which came with delicious potatoes and outstanding sourdough toast. The menu is quite interesting and I am fond of interesting menus, so that appealed to me. The restaurant's location is fabulous, right across the Promenade from the architectural awesomeness that is the Mission Inn. The antique woods of the booths and counters reek of old-fashioned craftsmanship and give the place a warm and surprisingly hip appeal, which is enhanced by the young people behind the counter, who are unusually friendly and helpful, for the most part, in spite of giving a first (and inaccurate) impression that they're a bit snobbish in their modish uniform. This was the second time my wife and I have visited Simple Simon's - we were there for breakfast on the way elsewhere both times, since it's a good stopping point on our way to the desert or the mountains. You order at the counter, they call out your name and you feel like a winner when they do because you know what you are about to eat!!! Go! Go! Go! Did I mention you you should Go!? Across from the Mission Inn (don't eat breakfast or lunch there). They also have soups, croissants (flaky, moist.), berry pies, and they serve a tasty breakfast all at reasonable prices. The cookie selection (freshly baked, of course) peanut butter (do not place on clothing - buttery goodness will soak in), the Chocolate Nut Bomb (holy crap), the Christmas cookie (do not wait until Dec 24th to eat) - Christmas almost everyday!!! Chocolate Chip! And Peanut Butter with ganache (do not count calories). Why-oh-why have I not rated this sandwich shop/bakery before? Wanted to keep it all to myself?! Go!Go!Go! Our sandwich choice: Gina's Vegetarian - Grated carrots, shredded lettuce, sliced (perfectly seasoned) tomatoes, purple onion, smooth avocado, thinly sliced cucumber topped with pesto and perfectly toasted olive bread.
